The Challenge

The Chinatown Heritage Centre’s reopening aimed to introduce new and refreshing ideas that would align with Singapore’s vision for a vibrant tourism sector. The goal was to create a more engaging and interactive experience while preserving the authenticity and depth of Singapore’s cultural heritage.

The Solution

An interactive experience powered by AI and hand gesture recognition technology was introduced to engage visitors in a new way. Placed at the end of the exhibition and accompanied by background music, the experience draws visitors in and adds energy to the space. By using simple gestures, visitors can select from four Heritage Icons such as the Samsui Woman, Street Hawker, Trishaw Rider or Opera Singer and see themselves transformed in real time.

The Result

The interactive experience helped increase footfall and encourage deeper visitor participation at the refreshed Chinatown Heritage Centre. By offering an interactive and personalized activity, it successfully created a more engaging and memorable experience for guests. The installation also supported the centre’s broader goal of modernizing heritage storytelling through innovation.
